Hi Charlie. That is an up-to-date camera and will take photos as good as mine - probably better. I take a lot of bloody awful photos that you never see. The difficulty is usually lighting, and sometimes no matter what you try all photos turn out bad. Some fish reflect light like a mirror, so the auto settings on the camera compensate and make the background dark. The shadows cast by the sun at this time of year are another problem I struggle with. I take up to ten photos of the same fish from different angles and usually get one that's okay.
Composition of the photo is something you should study, because that's one thing you can get right - many other people have no idea about this.
