Thats what we in the Hawkesbay are blessed with guys, good fishing, picture perfect views. That "Thingee" as you discribe it is a Needle fish skirt. Ive been using them for a while now, and they work a treat. Green, pink, blue, and all have a lumonescent head. Ask your local fishing retailer to order some in from DECORO fishing supplies, Phill may have em at T tactics?. Ive found Green is the best for Gurnard, Pink for the Snapper. Ive lost count of the amount of Kahawai ive nailed on these when simply retrieving. I believe the movement on the skirt has a vital role to play, and intices the strike. Worth trying if you havnt before.
