i arrived at whakaki at what mr colemen would say "gentlemens time" at around 9.30 am...... had my first strike at 11am when i was floundering around on the beach i notice broken water about 200m out and looked at the rod witch stood dead strait!! i quickly ran to the rod as it bent over and began to peel when the water broke again!! this time i caught a glimpse of it............ the battle lasted all of about a minute when it came to the surface yet again and managed to get its tail around my shock leader and snap me off!! it was a decent shark although i couldn't tell what sort it was?

anyhoo after this i decided to row out the long line in the kayak and try for a feed this was not to be!! i had been trying for a kahawai and failed so i had to resort to squid? " i knew strait away this was a bad idea as spineys love the stuff!!" however i thought id give it a go!! and for my effort in return i received 21 spineys and 2 missing hooks

a couple cod later and the rods had died for a couple hours now and i began to think it was only a matter of time before the spiney soldiers began there assault and reigned terror on the shore, so decided to pull the pin, i notice a little weight on the rod and sure enough a bloody gurnard!!! i thought should i give it another go? or should i leave now and be thankful i haven't encountered spineys yet? ONE MORE CAST and you wouldn't read about it!! the baron shark infested water gives me another gurnard!! the rain began to fall so i called it a day and headed home to say goodnight to my little falla all in all and enjoyable day was had!

lequane rd or haumoana tomarra morn
