Another East Clive experience... March 97? My dad on one side and his old mate Harley on the other. Two rods each. It was about 4:30 in the afternoon - see was as blue and as clear as it could get. The three of us were catching the odd kahawai...then my rod suddenly bent over - stayed over and the line was just peeling so fast that when i got to it their was only about 50m line left. My dad went to grab his gaff and Harley came over and said let the fish run - i replied "no line left" - i started to get pulled towards the water so much so that Harley had grabbed me from behind, it was like playing a game fish from shore - then ping - not the line - the hook. The week before that i landed a 3-4m thrasher shark - the week after that i had a huge kingi on - only to have my reel snap from the rod - i fought this kingi for 30min before i was left standing with rod in one hand and reel in the other...what could you do?
