howsit nojo, while the town beach can produce, the better option would be to try wainui beach which is about 5 minutes drive from the city. theres heaps of gud spots along there, lloyd george rd, schools, chalet and whales to name a few all which are easily found. further up the coast theres turihau and pouwawa, once again easy to find. the incoming tide usually fishes the best and usual times, early morning and evening seem to produce the goods. best baits seem to be pillies and bonito. common catches are the ever trusting kahawai, snapper in the summer and gurnard 2.good size elephant fish are common and theres the chance of sum very good tope at the right time. if you come unstuck call in and see colin at discount fishing supplies, pretty much the first shop you come to on the main street. hes usually up with the play and should be able to point you in the right direction.
hopefully this has been some help to you, cheers
