no I've only "surfcasted" with bait.

I would be inclined to ledger rig them with a 1m trace, 1m + from the sinker and use a worm hook unweighted through the SP. The plan being that the SP would be held up off the bottom and given plenty of ability to move in the water without weight.

However, I do want to try another technique which I have seen on youtube.

type 'rigging sluggo' in the search feature on youtube for a two part demo.

They use this large 9 inch black sluggo lure that is internally weighted and hooked to a 9/O (maybe)O Shanessey, and send it out into the surf and retrieve.

I think the technique could work well with some of our species, especially kings, large KY, big snaps ... sharks? And I will try this with just a jig head and maybe a 7 inch gulp or similar.

The only issue is that the SP would be way overweighted in the shallows with a 4+ oz jighead, and maybe it would end up just being a fast drag in without any PS wiggle.

Perhaps a 1oz jig, with a larger SP that has some weight and a flicky light graphite rod. My Starlo can fling a 1/2 oz 30-40m, so this may be viable.

The big arse jig heads are available and are used to target deep waters for the usual suspects, puka, bass.

Yes right now I have time on my hands
