One thing I love about fishing in the sea is that you never know whats going to take your bait.
This afternoon I thought I would have a practise run at live baiting, which I plan to do a bit more of later in the season.
I headed down to the Iron Pot with my lump of steak and tiny hooks to tryand land a few herrings for live baits before heading off to Bay View.
I had landed 2 Herrings when my little bait rod started bouncing about and my line took off away from the jetty. next thing I see a fish jumping out of the water and I think yippee, I got myself a nice Kahawai! well 2 minutes later I couldnt believe my eyes when I pulled up onto the concrete a Fat little rainbow trout.
Unbelievable... who would think you would catch a trout at the Iron Pot.
