    In Taupo that wind effect is really noticeable. A westerly will stack water in western Bays all day and then after dark when the wind drops it comes back in the form of several largish waves. Quite disconcerting if you are waded well out at a stream mouth in the dark and it is calm. It is called a seiche.(not sure of spelling)
