Couldn't make it out last night due to work commitments, so decided on an early start.Made the 35min drive from my place to a northern beach. Found out that I wasn't the only one with similar ideas.
Still dark but set the gear up. It was probably 15mins after set up that my new found friends rod buckled over once/twice and stayed over with line peeling at an a great rate of knots.
An obviously experienced angler as `he didn't rush to his rod. He picked the rod up and set the hook. A` good give and take fight and finally the sight of a big bloody red tail in the surf as`the spotlight was fired in its direction.
On the electronic scales it went 9.8kilos.
Not the only bender for the morning but the only one that stuck. BUGGER. Saw another big tail but damm those big bloody teeth. Shit they can flatten 80lb mono.
NOTHING SPECIAL ABOUT THE LOCATION. Its where the big snapper come in at this time of the year.
You guys know the spot but you have to put the smart hours in have the confidence that they will turn up. Sometimes we hear the rumours and we end up chasing the tails.
Pick a known spot and stick to it. They will turn up, but they aren't easy. Everyone isn't going to pick up a 20lber.
Many anglers have fished a lifetime and haven't caught a fish anywhere near that magical mark..
TRUST ME THEY ARE THERE. Between the beacons and Whirinaki Straight.
Off to work. Cheers
