Don't do what I did about 30 years ago. I had a Kilwell "State of the Art two piece glassie" it had brass shims at the join. Anyway I had one of those rod holders you clipped on your car roof gutter. So it never got broken very often.

Then I bought a station wagon and it would fit inside. So I went to break it. No way was that rod going to come apart. I tried everything, penetrating oil, etc, you name it I tried it. Wouldn't budge. The brass had really locked together.

So I tied one end to the clothesline pole, put a good stout knot on the upper end, tied it to the tow ball on my new Holden EH Station wagon. And applied gentle pressure, taking up the slack. Felt something give, got it. I cried. Alas one shredded top section and it was still locked together. And then it was down to vice grips and screwdrivers. To pull the brass section out.

And then buy a new top piece. That is the same Kilwell Glassie that I still have today. I use a bit of vegetable oil on the Solaris and the occassional goobie.

Coughing up to some of lives great booboo's is soul building.

    Cheers Trev
