Kite Assisted Surf Casting Archived Message

    Hi All

Now that is a politically correct Subject Heading for a Surfcasting Forum methinks.

Mine has a release clip Geno, the idea being that one can use it just as a wind assisted cast. Or can use it to tow out five hooks, as as the release clip comes after the dropper rig attachment point for the mini very mini, tiny really, 5 hook short line.

What I have done is bought a mini downrigger release clip which I can clip onto a stopper knot with a loop which I have tied on the kite mainline. That way I don't have to have much kiteline out to give me enough pulling power. As I clip the release clip on at about 100 metres and that will have enough pull to take care of two hooks on my surfcaster rig.

Don't want to have 100s of metres of kite to wind back in. Just want to get the bait out around 200
    metres.

Also want to try the same system using the release clip with either a live bait or SP Shadjerk on a balloon. Still also gottta have a weighted plastic milk bottle before the clip, other wise the kite just gains altitude rather than just heading straight out. I am also going to have to incorporate a split ring, so I can lower the line, rather than have it drop. Much like the deadman system. Except my deadman is the kite line. A fish takes my livie or SP and the downrigger clip releases. And I have the fun of playing it on the surfcaster. I might add my downrigger clip is a jaw type, it clamps onto the line. Hence the need for a split ring, so I can lower it. The other type of release clip wouldnt need it.

Thats what I have also been sorting out on the beach, making sure it all works. And it does. So when the fish are around gonna give it a go.

Only way I know how to get a live bait out where it counts on a surfcaster. So yes, is a permitted activity.

Surfcasting is still my thing Warwick, this is just something to play around with and have a little fun and see what it can do.

    Cheers Trev
