Fishings getting better as it warms up.

Decided to head out tonight for a surfcast before the shit turns up and it paid off. Over the past two days me rods have accounted for 18 snapper to 17.1LB. Some reasonable inbetween size fish too. They seem to be everywhere at the moment and they have been biting hard from 7pm onwards.

The kahawai have been slow although the Mohaka and wairoa mouth seems to be holding a few even though the beachs are slow. There has also been an influx of trevally, mainly small ones around 800g with the odd one up to 1.5kg. The fresh trevs accounted for all of my bigger snapper.

The swell has been over a meter with waves breaking on the bars, this seems to be when the fishing is at it's best. When its flat the fishing has been too. It was blowing a southerly last night when the fish came on so I wouldn't be put off this weekend.

Both nights there has been long lines on the beaches, both nights the long line tellys were 0 ! So it shows the fish are in close.

Early this morning I took the inflatable out for a splash, although we lucked out on the snapper off mahanga, there were terikihi and nurds around. The amount of dolphins was a sight I have never seen before, for about 15 minutes I could here the sound of a boat heading towards us, or so it sounded. Shortly after we noticed a dolphin, followed by a pod at least a mile long. The water was so still, the sound of the dolphins was amazing, sitting there fishing away hearing there high pitched squeaking noises was unreal. I would hate to think how many dolphins there were, but they covered a vast area well over a mile long about a kilometer off the boat.

Apart from that, there where kingfish in large schools, couldn't catch the buggers on anything ! They would follow up wat ever was on the line and circle the boat, good to see that many kingfish around ! Well worth a slidebait if your around mahia or wairoa water ways, they will be there. Which I had a decent livebait, no lures would bloody work.

Good luck to those heading out this weekend, im sure there is some snapper waiting for ya.
