Hi All
Well a picture speaks a thousand words. And those new to surf casting will hopefully appreciate a pic or two, to help them on their way. So a search on here using any of the keywords, should bring this post up. So feel free to add any pics, you have of holes, guts and channels. I will start the ball rolling.
Low tide. I would call this a blind channel or gut. Or even a very big hole.
The same place at High Tide. Spot the entrance the fish will enter by.
One from up North. Often at High tide a hole will be identified by the wave washing slightly further up the beach, I call this the tongue. A wave or swell entering a hole, will have more energy. As it is running through deeper water. Whereas the waves either side of a hole are breaking on the shallower beach structure, thus disipitating their energy before they hit the shoreline.
A very good hole, pic taken at low tide.
Same hole different angle.
It was a beauty while it lasted. Snapper loved it.
Same hole at High tide. Nice lip too.
Definitely needed a Rod methinks.
Another hole from different angles.
Same hole at high tide.
As holes, guts, channels are different distances from the High Tide mark, they have different fishing times. Some can only be fished up to half tide in, and then the incoming tide pushes you out of casting distance. Some holes etc can be fished right up to high tide and then on the outgoing. Think out of the loop, move when required. A beach has many stories to tell, learn how to read them, and you will be rewarded.
