    Shock leaders Archived Message

Recently I have started tying a double in my main line using a surgeons loop. I've tested various line strengths and knots using digital scales and actually found this to be quite a decent knot, especially when needed in a hurry. Tying a "Bimini Twist" or an "Australian Braid" is just not practical, and quite honestly too bloody complicated to tie.

I've used double uni knots, and blood knots and even doubled the main line at the knot to increase its strength when tying main line straight to 40lb shock leader.

So the question to ask is what do you all find to be a very reliable knot, that has a minimal failure rate?

As a point of interest, for those that do not know of the site, here is one that I've found fantastic in the past for learning knots. http://www.animatedknots.com
