    Hi all
    I have been reading with interest the recent threads in relation to NZACA. At the recent AGM in Feilding (my first) I took on board the plight from the exec, requesting feedback and ideas for the NZACA as we move into the next 55 years, so recently I emailed my thoughts and ideas to the national exec for consideration. I was thanked by several of the exec for my feedback and I know that as elected members of our national organisation they will take my opinions and views along with any others into serious consideration as they work towards developing the next 55 years of the association. A famous kiwi (Rachel Hunter) once said 'It won't happen overnight, but it will happen.) So we need to have faith that our elected national exec members will have things all in good hands. But like anything they need our support and our ideas. So please can I encourage individuals and clubs to piece together some thoughts and send it on to the right channels.
    Phil, great idea, and reasonably cheap to put together. Our 4 min Promo dvd for 2013 took 4 hours to film (and a fun time had doing it) and about the same in editing etc. We had some family hookups to produce it but regardless of that a dvd is a cheap marketing tool, especially in the technological world we live in.
    My reason for posting actually is to pose some thought around how members join. Being that I have only been a member for the past 5 years I have always assumed that my afilliation to NZACA was because our club is affiliated. So is being a member of a club the only way I can become a member? I was unsure, so I just checked out the NZACA website and it says this;
    To belong to the NZACA one has to be a financial member of a local Fishing Club as we firmly believe in the importance of local Clubs. For those who for one reason or another can not belong to a Club we have a ‘Postal Club’ – the Kiwi Fishing Club – which caters for such so they can gain the benefits of affiliation with the National Association.

    So generally, the way that people belong is by being a financial member of a club. So my point is, would it be more beneficial for NZACA to focus on developing resources and tools to support clubs in recruiting and retaining members. I am sure that most clubs would agree with me that we have major 'swings and roundabouts' when it comes to membership. I think that we have all thought of ideas to try and hook new members from buddy systems to discounted new member rates etc etc etc, the lists and ideas are endless, yet we still have reasonably low memberships and then when we see the hoards of recreational fishers out on the beaches with their families we wonder why the hell wouldnt they join a bunch of keen as fishos like us? Who knows, it differs for each angler. So should as clubs and with support from NZACA we be looking at ways to attract those fishos? Food for thought.
    Anyways, Hubby and I were talking about this sort of thing while we were on the beach fishing yesterday and comparing with other sports and the analogy goes like this "Just because people enjoy going for a daily walk, dosnt mean they are keen on joining the local walking club." We need to be realistic, clubs aint for everyone, but what is an achievable percentage?
