I use about 0.38 mm on a shelving beach. I don't care how limp it is or isn't. A budget abrasion resistant line (e.g. Red Ice) of that diameter is fine once it's stretched and bedded in on a free-spool.
My new Akios 555 is loaded with 0.32, but that's for surf beaches where distance counts and side currents can be a problem. I chose Red Ice for that, too. I'm a cheapskate .
Reducing line diameter makes a difference to distance on the casting court, but the advantage is reduced on the beach. Bait size and aerodynamics are more critical to getting distance—in my opinion.
I'll take the safety of slightly thicker line for both casting and playing fish.
