    Fishing conditions today Archived Message

Dont rush out in Napier Hastings area today.
2 to 3m swell, water the same colour as Marmite, rivers in flood, beaches littered with driftwood and winds that will cut you in half.
    Now the good news.........
The Tukituki River has cut its way back towards the groyne and is flowing strongly to the south and has a large shingle island keeping it flowing that way. When it flows south the fishing at the mouth and along the beach towards Haumoana is usually very good. That is when waves and dirty water subside. Also the Wairoa River is pumping at the moment and carving a huge channel at the "Bar". This should mean that it will stay where it is for some time giving surfcasters good access from the road end at Whakamahi and plenty of beach to fish.
The two lakes at Tutira have joined up again and the water is dirty. You can sometimes have good fishing in such conditions.
