I have a couple of bigger reels that were a bit fluffy. Made them behave with thicker oil in the bearings, heavier line and not too much line. They were never going to be distance reels. With lighter distance reels, the brakes are generally up to the job, but I don't overfill them and don't use line under 0.35mm for fishing.
