Its always been my thumb RULE(devious, to check tides before I leave for a surfcast, hence my amazement at the drama that unfolded last night, Here it goes....
Panser and I headed out to Snapper rock for a fish, we got down to our spot as shown in Pic above. We started fishing and around 9pm noticed SOMEONE (Lets call him MUPPY) emerge from the water (Definitely not a mermaid). Muppy then proceeded back into to water as if to head back from where he came. Muppy then wandered up to PANSER and started talking about his encounter, Panser soon discovered from his accent that MUPPY was a SOUTH AFRICAN.(Funny that aye) , (Did he swim all the way here???) Anyway I soon joined the conversation and discovered that Muppy and his mate (Let’s call him PUPPY), went out onto Snapper Rock at 6pm for a fish. Not realizing that High tide at 10pm, they (MUPPY and PUPPY) planned to get back after 9pm.
One would think that they would have noticed that the TIDE was rising and NOT dropping as they fished on. At around 9pm – Muppy chanced his luck and swam ashore albeit with great difficulty (Lucky sod), which is where my story begins. Muppy left puppy and swam back, we then ascertained that PUPPY couldn’t swim. I asked MUPPY if he wished to call home and also call PUPPIES family to let them know about what’s happening. Panser and I offered our cell phones for MUPPY to use. This then shocked us – MUPPY couldn’t remember his home phone number (illegal Alien). I thought of gesturing MUPPY back to the ocean to get him to swim back to South Africa.
I suggested calling the police to report the incident which MUPPY strongly disagreed with, ignoring MUPPIES comments, I called the police and advised the situation. Panser and I by now were paying little attention to our Rods, trying to calm MUPPY. The police dispatcher called me and asked if I was affiliated to the distressed MUPPY and PUPPY, to which I replied – HELL NO. The dispatcher then asked me to call out to the stranded PUPPY and get him to stay there and not try get off. Little did we know, MUPPY told PUPPY before he swam ashore that PUPPY could walk back in two hours(IN THE PITCH DARKNESS), this would put PUPPY smack into a reseeding high tide (High tide 10pm).
I proceeded to YELL at the top of my lungs out to PUPPY in AFRIKAANS (Who I thought, was also South African with limited ENGLISH), TO stay there, HELP is on the way. Quite chuffed with my ability to yell, MUPPY then approached me to advise that PUPPY was actually IRISH AND didn’t understand AFRIKAANS (DUUUUUURRRRRR). Well one can only guess the thoughts that entered my mind (TWAT).
Anyway the IRB arrived to rescue the stranded PUPPY, once ashore, the officer with MUPPY noticed a bottle of – DISHWASHING LIQUID – in their tackle pack, ‘IS THIS FOR WASHING THE FISH THE OFFICER QUIRPED’ , it turns out the it was PUPPIES life saver for repelling the Mosquitoes, PUPPY was being hounded by the mozzies.
As the now SAVED MUPPY AND PUPPY prepared to leave, I offered a piece of advice that was met with disdain from MUPPY (Arrogant *$#@*), I suggested looking at the TIDE CHART before making trip to ledges or onto islands. Was I wrong to suggest this to a fisho? TODAYS NEWS SHOULD READ – IRB RESCUERS IRA -WANTED AND ON THE RUN - MUPPY
Not sure if MUPPY made it home, if he couldn’t remember his home phone number, (it makes one think).
POINT MUPPY back to the OCEAN if someone happens to meet HIM………oh, oh – we caught no fish ..Bugger…. Good things come to those who bait.

Very funny really one very lucky puppy, probably would have been a hungry puppy if he had to wait another 6-8 hours or a drowned puppy if he tried to dog paddle back...

Sure is funny, its the ARROGANCE that gets to me. The advice given was for his own welfare for future trips. Its always sad when you hear about FISHO'S losing their lives off rocks and islands, taking chances FOR A FISH??????
LIFE is more important than a FISH....Good things come to those who bait.
