Yellow eyed Mullet!

Does anybody use these as dead baits?
And if so what are they good for ?

I used it sunday as a dead bait, got 7 gurnard i no it worked that day just want to know if its not a fluke.

have used it very effectively on gurnard as a cubed bait

I was reading the complete guide to surfcasting by Allan Burgess earlier he recons that they are exelent bait, dead or alive

Yea i have a little spot were i can catch them up to 1-1.2 kilo they are huge mad good baits

I have caught some good snapper on them, hardy bait.

Inverse butterfly works best as as a dead bait. Split down the spine, remove spine, put skin together, 'sew' it up with hook and trace.
Have found local caught yems work better than out of area yems.

I prefer piper tho

Sanmar has been popular with some friends of mine. They said it was quite oily. I've not ever used it tho.

Its hard to get down this way, we had a good run with Salmon Smult a while ago.

Makes a durable whole fish bait for big snapper. Excellent livebaits.

The snapper don't know where the car park is!
Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.

oh my mistake ,they were little salmon then.goin to look at a house in urenui tomorrow night,so would be keen then but.....oh na just checked the reports

ahh just checked the report for the coro in the weekend ,thats my chance of a decent fish blown there too

Grey mullets better. 1kg yellow eye

, thats a whopper yelloweye man. Caught my first big snapper 8.7kg at whakaki on a yellow eyed mullet fillet freshly caught, under a big moon in dead flat sea late at night.

went down the river last night and got 10 good sized yellow eyed mullet all around 35cm good fun on light tackle too.
