Yeah I have been fishing there, its been really shit to be honest. I haven't caught a snapper there in about 3 weeks. Mind you, my time free seems to fall on big swells and heavy winds. I know a few angler who fished there in the weekend for peanuts.
In saying that, I have checked a few dingys and longliners of late, and the results of limit catches seemed to be a trend. I saw one fish that would have been over 14kg.
The sea is getting a good onshore at the moment, its really clean ( for a change) and reasonably flat ( for a change!) so I would think as the tides swing to late evening highs, the fishing should be quite good this week.
On the other hand, there has been allot of snapper caught from the whakamahia area, between the mouth and north of Waihua. One guy got 4 tonight and I heard of several others..... The spot seems to be ether right at the mouth of far south on the edge of the shit towards waihua.
Baits at Whakaki where untouched too. I didn't even get a bite last night lol, unreal. Sea was perfect. I fished from 5:40pm - 8:30pm 500m south of the car park.
The weekend you had you pania challange, there was a shit load of snapper caught along that stretch, a really good run. Nuda since then pretty much.

I no the feeling of bad seas coinciding with days off. Worst run ever. Thanks for the reply, hopefully we see an improvement soon eh. Seas still cold , but this spell of easterly nth east should help things along some what.

I think the beach fishing is going to be quiet until around the 13th 14th of November then it will go well until the 26th. From there till the 13th of Dec will have the odd goody but quiet after the 13th for a week or two it will be like the end of October last year. Anyway that's what the calendar reckons only time will tell.
