Flounder Fishing

Gidday to all you fisho's that have tried everything ..

Who among you has fished for Flounder. No not with a spear, with a rod & reel. I would like to hear how you set-up, what sized hook, do you use bait or a fly ? Any other tips that you have. Cheers

Caught a few over the years bro.

Keeping it simple, buy the mackrel type sabikis in the smallest size you can find. You will have to read my article to get the top bait. But corn and all the usually ones you would have heard of do work well. They will be running well with this weather too.....

Best to fish 3 rods, cast and set it. If you only want to fish two hooks, cut the rig in half.

The old timers here use a light trace and small hooks and use earthworm for bait on the shallow mud flats during slack tide.

Born to fish. Forced to work.

Have caught a few sole and flounders and all on either fly or crayfish bait except one huge yellowbelly flounder on a handline using gravy beef for bait when I was a kid. You will be amazed how well a decent yellowbelly flounder can pull on a light (or fly) rod.
I need to finds a spot where there are planty to try out a few new ideas on them.

In the tropics they are pretty easy fare on fly using crazy charlie flies. At an Island called Tarawa I caught twenty one afternoon.

The snapper don't know where the car park is!
Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.

How strange, when I fished surfcasting competitions in the UK forty years ago, by far the largest number of fish bought to the scales were flounders. The most popular bait was peeler or soft back crabs, followed by marine worms, red or white rag worm. Great sport with a good feed to follow. I am given to understand because of the lack of control over continental beam trawlers, this fish has become almost a rarity.
