Flat beaches.

Hi, I live at Orewa and the tide goes out for miles, so at high tide, on a good casting day, you might get into a metre and a half of water. People have told me they catch fish, infrequently, at dawn and dusk, Does anyone have any special rigs for these sort of conditions? Good tides coming up this weekend

Try the incoming tide in the night (after dark) I have caught shoalies there at such times. Rigs I used were just two hook ledger rigs with skippie for bait. Dont expect any big ones-----but you never know.

I would look at a dead low tide and a longcast rig.

I only say that as you probably wont be able to cast the ledger as far, not that distance is the answer to catching more fish at night, but it does help. I love dead low right on dark, you tend to hit the water that is generally untouched most of the time and it can often be rewarding.

Keep your bait small so you can get the little bit further.

As Gary and Chad have said also you tend to find shallow places will fish best over the biggest tides during the evening into the nigh. Not be shy on getting some pellet style burly and throw it out during the low.

Thanks for your responses. I liked the low tide option as it opens up more opportunities during the tide cycle, and one I hadn't thought of.
