Can you launch a kontiki from whakamahia or is there too much underwater obstructions?

Yeah, you can, there is no structure from the Wairoa bar, south to the first creek towards Waihua. It is all open. Although I would suggest Blucks pitt road or whakaki would be a better option at the moment. Fishing has been slow, but most contiki's have got 2-3 fish a set, snapper and gurnard wise.
