A few days back I turned my 2-piece backbone elite into a 3-piece. So now I am in the market for two more 12ft rods.
I like to fish with a set of three rods, I use to use 3-piece 13'6 rods but I am now finding the 12ft 2-piece are much more convenient and easily long enough. If the rods are any longer then 12ft I can not fit them in the boot of my truck.
My current rod is a 12ft Sonik SKS and I might add a second, but like to fish a variety of rods so recommendations for other 12ft 2 piece rods would do. Budget up to and around $300
I was going to suggust something like a QT6, but I think that is 13"3, so just a little long. Awesome rod though, I use that one off the rocks too where it is shallow in front.
I don't think there is much by way of 12 foot these days, you may have to go back to shimano or go with a sonic.
Have a look at a new Penn 12' 2pc it's rung for an overhead but will work fine with a fixed spool as it has Fuji K guides. We have one in shop priced at $279.00 which I think is a fair price for the high level of build. I have cast it and it has plenty of power and an excellent tip recovery.
The 12ft Sonik is a very nice rod, the blank is probably the best part. Nice and light, quite stiff with plenty of power especially low down while having enough sensitivity in the tip. Distance casting is not my thing, but it seems to cast just fine.
It has good guide placements, and the guides seem to be good quality, a bit of money has been saved with the reel mount but its still more then adequate. The finish is also adequate and the white tip is a nice feature. So these very little not to like about it, certainly a better rod then my Backbone elite.
Best of all its 12ft and 2-piece, I can have it packed away fully rigged in my boot within minutes, then take it out, re-bait and its ready to cast. Has made moving between spots much faster. Don't think I would ever use 3-piece rods again.
Prevail , they are a nice slimline rod. I don't know how many retailers have them stock. GK has a sample rod and as I said we have stock, any problems give me a call. Well worth a look.
