went down to awatoto today 4 a fish around 8am,few people fishing at mouth.decided not to fish rather go to omaranui landfill to fish, cannot beleive the amount of empty bait packets, and rubbish left on the beach. someone has even dumped boxes of rubbish and bottles at hi tide line, bird with fishing line and hook wrapped around legs, broken glass.is this really somewhere that you can take the kids fishing???This sort of thing is reflects badly on the people that do fish and make the effort to keep our beaches tidy.as this is my(local)beach and regular fishing spot. its about time those lazy fishos started cleaning up after themselves.if anyone has any ideas or is willing to help me clean beach send me pm

Sounds like a good PR oppotunity for the Pania Club to me. We do a big beach clean up with a 4x4 club down here.

I fished the beach at LeQuense Road early this morning with a group of Sunday anglers from Hastings Pack and Save. The problem with old line on the beach was much in evidence also, but general fishing litter was absent.
A strange outing where fish were most cooperative, with kahawhai, small trevs and a fat gurnard obliging the anglers. I saw three good fish break off caused mostly by inexperience, but this was of little matter. Watching the fight I believe they were small rays. What made it strange was all the fish were caught within forty metres of the shore, the two ladies could not hit thirty metres with their casting, yet a steady stream of fish came their way.
I was having no success until I realised I was casting a country mile past the fish, the moment I throttled back then a couple of fish joined me on the beach.
Lovely morning, until late in the session the crabs were on holiday, the sea was very fishable with excellent colour, although in the early hours there was a chill breeze off the land.
Fishing at its best with just about everyone taking home their dinner ... great.

Have to agree with you Spongey re the Awatoto river mouth. I have spoken to several lazy a##ses about leaving and not picking up their trash. It seems to hit a bad spot with them when they are confronted but stuff them. Good idea Phill on the PR front and I will look at doing something about it. Also good to see you taking a feed home Hangler, nice that you are out there doing it.
