Blacks Beach

Any word on how its fishing at the mo?. Was nearly heading there yesterday avo . There was still the edge of the southeast sweep catching whakaki which churned and murked up. More citrus than you can poke a stick at but only a coupla pinkies.

Lemons and baby kahawai at Blacks on Saturday morning and it looked fantastic also kontiki exponents from Napier. A maori guy I spoke to said the Blacks side of Nuhaka mouth had been very good for snapper before the blow. Some big ones too.

The snapper don't know where the car park is!
Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.

Like I said the other day, its the pick of a bad lot mate. Fishing one rod the other day as I had my other two rods waiting in wings with sidebaits, I took 9 snapper in the morning. Nothing huge, but decent. Shit loads a kahawai.

If II was you, I would head to nuhka from Tahanui, on low tide there is a huge spit you can walk right out on. Thats the money spot

Good tides next cupla nites mite be worth an investigate. Should be some Kingies there if theres plenty of activity.

any one fished mohuka lately ? looking at going up there for 1st time Friday arvo .can any one give me a couple of good hints (times,tide,etc) and any spots that maybe a help me

If you mean Mohaka then yes, I was there from Friday evening to Sunday morning, water was dirty but should be clear for you next Friday. For all that time I only managed a small ky and trevally. There was also a lot of Rays... no Lemons surprisingly

Where were you at Mohaka Andy? We were just on the west side of the creek. Got there Saturday arvo and left Sunday 9am.
All sorts of rubbish sharks, got a small bronze whaler, a tope and and a hammerhead. One small snap and a 90cm lemon. You're right about the rays too

Yeah mate, we started off on the left the 1st campsite on Friday eve - sat morming, then shifted closer to the mouth after that. I lost count of the amount of Rays I hooked up on, just one of those weekends I guess. Every crab bait which was put out for lemons was coming back untouched but hooked a grey shark...
Other than that just undersized and rubbish. I should have come to the weigh in but with those results just wasn't into it...

I have had allot of live baits out aye......... The piper smokes the kahawai in seconds, and anything else smallish for that matter, lots of grey mullet, bugger all kings, may just be there on the wrong days though.

Got quite a few gurnard at whakaki too, not the same excitement catching little line wiglers though.

I livebaited yelloweyed mullet at Blacks Saturday morning. No takers. Then livebaited piper at Snapper rock for three hours on the incoming tide for one kahawai hookup and he fell off on the edge. One 5 1/2 kg lemon at Blacks was my weigh in total.

Howd you get on Yesterday Chad. Picked up a few Schoalies and Gurnard at Nuhaka, and caught some better Schoalies at the cut last nite. Heaps of big Kahawai and Lemons about too. Shame about the 2 to 3km of Setnet stretched from blacks to Tahaenui. All my fish were caught on a rod and put into a nice cold Chillybin to keep fresh

Love too but got a feeling more of the grapevine that Awatoto area should spit out something nice over the next few days. We shall see
