Hi Guys, I know this topic has probably been covered but I am interested to know how everyone stores their tackle and keeps things (relatively) organised down at the beach. I understand it may vary depending on whether you do a lot of walking or just drive right onto the beach in a 4x4. I personally often use a two wheel drive so like to try and keep things compact. I previously used a backpack like set up but have since moved to a larger box like set up that goes on my back ( Think the Poms use them). Have found it good to use as it converts to a seat to so saves me carting a deckchair to the beach and allows me to put my bait bin on top thus allowing me to have my arms free to carry rod and rod holders.
Have made a few adjustments to make fishing a bit easier most notably I put an old headlamp on the inside lid so when night fishing I have a light that I can just leave on and will light the whole box up when I need to get in there. Have velcroed a cushion to the lid to keep the bum comfy. Have tried to make it so everything has a place; Knife goes on the side, my pliers, sinkers, ike and bait elastic go on the accessory tray up the top. I inserted an old tent pole at the front of the box which holds spare trace, insulation tape and I wrap my rod wraps around it to when I am done along with a spare rag. In the middle I put a small tackle box with a few spare bits and pieces, reels, rig wallet, and headlamp. Along the backrest at the back I have a collapsible bucket that I secure with a mini carabineer I find a bucket of salt water next to me to be very handy!
I Understand I probably sound like bit of a gear whore but I do think having some degree of organisation and getting yourself set up certainly makes the experience a bit more enjoyable and is hopefully one of those little things that in time (along with a lot of other things ) may contribute to improved results. How to you guys keep organised down there? Or more or less just play it by ear???! There are a few pics there hope they worked….
Thats a nice setup! I always find I need more hands when walking out to a spot. Carrying two rods, two rod-holders, gaff, chillibin, and tackle box is a mission. Then if you catch anything and want to bring it home it creates more problems http://www.paniasurfcasting.org http://www.surfcaster.co.nz
Im impressed, but it does look heavy if having to walk any distance. The snapper don't know where the car park is! Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.
The setup itself is relatively light but obviously as you load it up with the kitchen sink it becomes heavier I have found having the sinkers closer to the backrest helps quite abit but am yet to cart it round for any longer than 15 mins at a time
Those boxes are used a lot in the UK as they can't drive to their fishing like we do. I use a Black Magic tackle bag the big one its awesome but the same problem , I take the kitchen sink and the dish washer.
These boxes are totally unsuited to most of the dirty SOB's I've seen surfcasting. I mean, how can you cut up a pillie on that soft, squishy seat ? And as a seat or bait board, it's just too low. Someone would have to help them get up each time . Aside from all that, you're not seriously suggesting they walk anywhere?
