Boat fishing contest Coromandle east coast.An angler has hooked up on a Kahawai useing 1kg line played it for about 1 hour and got it to the back of the boat and thought that it could possibly be a NZ record looking at the size of it then just as they were going to boat it along came Mr Mako and chomped off its tail.

I remember those happenings Charlie. When I was in the BOI i fished a lot of 1 kg. I had a world record skipjack eaten by a kingfish at Piercy Rock and a kahawai eaten by a mako (about 100lb) that jumped out to let me see what had my kahawai.
