Kahawai World Cup

Kahawai World Cup this weekend along Papamoa Beach, flat sea, no wind, bloody hot, is the prediction so should be a great couple of days, $10,000 first prize, $1,000 for the winning team and a trophy, and lots of daily prizes along with lots of fun.See you there.

It's going to be a cracker weekend, and there is a Kahawai with a $10000.00 tag swimming along the beach waiting for a juicy fat bait. Good luck to all competitors.

Hey just a question - do the organisers put these kind of competitions on the calander according to the seasons overall schedule of comps (or god forbid the RMA) and overlook the optimal tide and moon phases? Just asking...

Winning fish was just over 1.9 kgs caught by a guy from the winning team "The Master Baiter's". It was caught first cast Sunday morning - Well done.
Great weekend and comp but rather hot 2 days on the beach although had to be better than that awful weather we had on the first year of the comp. Thanks to Mike B, Grant and Lesley of WBSC for all their hard work and to all our sponsors and or course Papamoa Rotary Club.Lastly and on a personal note Les and Caralyn for putting up with me. Cheers guys

PS Geno - I hope you get your quad axle fixed mate and its nothing serious - that rattle was rather loud or was that the empty GGW bottles?

Some Rufus tried to set his kontiki in amongst the fishos outside the top ten camp dont know how many lines it took out,(shot off to the left )but I heard it was at least 30 before he ran down to get it, some very pissed surf casters

Yes we set aside an area in front of the surf club for swimmers and for the surf club to patrol then this chap turns up with a contiki but by the time i was told about it and got down to him he had sent it on it's way except it turned left just a few metres out and went right down the beach through all the fishers, one of the fishers unhooked it a long way down the beach and left it on the sand so the owner had to do the walk of shame to collect, he was from Auckland and first time he had used one.

sat 1.8kg was the heaviest and i think only 5 was weigh in.Sunday during prizegiving i dont recall them calling out the weight of every winning fish apart from the person,s name.The area that i was fishing at..20 meters from me on his first cast a fisherman pulls in a good size kahawai and after tagging it headed of to get it weigh in and on his return i asked for result..1.9kgs and the rest which i forgotten and it measured 53cm.Now this person got a prizes for the first fish weighd in.... keeping in mind the weight of fish still hasnt been mentioned.....and prize for the second heaviest fish of the day.The person who took out first prize was very happy and i was still waiting for weight of fish to be mentioned...finally it came out of the winners mouth..1.9kgs.I was puzzled and so was the person fishing 20 meters from me.Im hoping that the organizers put results up soon via facebook or website specially the weight of all winning fish...or am i comparing it too much to the snapperbonanza?????

??? The name of the angler and also the weight of the winning fish plus the various other prize winners and their fish weights were announced loud and clear at the prize giving and also projected up on a large screen for all to see

The results and heaps of photos will be posted hopefully over the weekend on the website and facebook so keep an eye out, also in support of roybop the weights and results were announced each day and shown on the big screen so unsure why some didn't see them. On a positive note the Kahawai World Cup is here to stay as are the Western Bay Surfcasting Club in partnership with the Rotary Club of Papamoa and already we have some exciting stuff planned for next year so don't miss out, the dates for 2014 will be confirmed shortly.

dont get me wrong folks...i love this comp...3years in a row...dont know how i missed all of that info...and i wasnt even drinking...even the guy who got second prize was asking the winner how heavy his fish was.

Thanks for the feed back we have a de brief with Rotary in a couple of weeks so we can make sure next years event is even better so i will raise it with them, we were right up the front so it may have been clearer, thanks again.
