On a large scale, cheap fish is being substituted for expensive fish without the consumer knowing. Moreover, new varieties, never before consumed, are being detected in fish dishes.

Interesting reading. I wonder how many people could look at a fillet of fish and tell what species it is. Or more to the point, what species it isn't!

Perhaps its best to catch our own after all

Bet it happens here too. MMMMMMMM vietnamese sewer bred carp straight from the chippie. At least in Europe there putting a ban on fish dumping. Here NZ fish processors probably substitute and dump fish as well.

Kevyonz, there could be some truth in your concern. I fished Bayview at some ungodly hour this morning, and once more the fish were most cooperative but there was also an unusual incident.

There was the occasional very large clump of bull kelp drifting by and on one retrieval I became entangled and pulled the offending mass to shore. When my son picked the kelp up this fell out of it.

With a sunrise such as this it was a pretty magnificent morning all round.

The seahorse was carefully returned to its paddock. The guy fishing next to us had a nice snapper, his eyes lit up when that his the beach, I made do with two nice gurnard.
