LDS- Livebait Delivery System

This prototype machine, being built for a mate and I is a smaller version of the very successful Kentiki.
It will never tow a long-line out, nor have more than 1 hook on it, however it will open up a lot more fishing area for LBG fishing.
Pretty excited about it's potential, and can't wait to get it out for it's first trial

Razz, if you go to Paul's Fishing Kites, they have a special spring loaded clip that will detach the baited line from the deployment torpedo once the required distance has been achieved. This allows the machine (?)to be be brought to shore on it's own line without interfering with the live-bait and the line and rod is is attached to.

Great idea, it looks as if you have put a lot of thought into the design. Innovation is the mother of invention.

Nice bit of kit Razz, that would be choice to pull out livebaits, whats the thrust on it? May need to tone it down for fair of ripping them off. I know a few places where that method would be insane

Hey Chad. It has 30lb max thrust, 5 speeds, right down to walking pace. So fingers crossed we won't lose too many livebaits on the way out. Might even get brave enough one day to chase marlin with it, haha.

oooo, you could use a downrigger style release clip and set it at it's slowest speed, once at optimum livebait range lock up the drag on your kontiki reel and let it hold the kontiki in place thus keeping the bait in place and not "free" to come back in against the rocks... nice

I have some kite release clips in the shop which are adjustable .they work well on kites but the water drag on a torp could be a much.

We are using a sacrificial 8lb mono line for releasing puposes at the moment which seems to work ok, provided you judge the drift direction correctly on release. Otherwise the torpedo becomes a fantastic livebait entanglement device when retrieving it.
Looks like we might also shift to a braid mainline when we go past 250 m.
The first trial we had the other day didn't entice anything, however we learnt a few valuable lessons. Not the least being: make sure the other rods you have already put out are well and truely attached to terra firma. We had 2 other rods out with livebaits on sliders, and my beach spike clearly should have been deeper(and my drag backed off more)! So while we were dicking around with the torpedo, something monstered my livebait and took off with my shiney pflueger and aqua tip, never to be seen again! grrr
