Anyone been out?

Anyone been out over the xmas new-year break?
I've had a couple of shots at it myself, Ocean Beach on xmas day then Whakaki and Mohaka last couple of days.
No fish pics unfortunately but the seas have been great

Plenty of pinkies . Better size too, 36 to 50 cm jobs. Odd gurnard, and jagged a nice half dozen grey mullet for bait at the Mohaka mouth. Bit too flat now tho. Had a Big stingray scoff my slider Kahawai, chased it up on the surface, was exciting for a bit

. Kontikis are picking up a lot of nice panies up Whakaki on short sets aswell.

Fished Blucks towards Nuhaka wednesday,four fat Ky and a decent gurnard, 1.00 till nine, an enjoyable afternoon.

Went out to kawhia today surf was too rough to fish and the harbour was bloody busy and i only got teased by tiddlers hitting my bait, but I did catch a little bit of sunburn (bugger)

Spent the last 2 days at Mohaka, was pretty slow fishing, gurnard, 1 mackerel and kahawai and several lemons... livebaits seemed to free themselves from the hooks too
Talked to a few people with quads who came back from Waikare way, just as slow there too.
Oh and did I mention lemons, throw out cray, hit by lemons, throw out pillies, hit by lemons, throw out Kahawai or mackerel baits, hit by lemons. Either they are hungry and no food for them or they have changed their diet plans.

Hey fin-nor there is a good hole between the hot water pools and harbour mouth at Kawhia at Ocean Beach I fished it at low last night. It is protected by a bar at low and not too rough. Picked up 6 30-35cm pannies. It is easy to spot from the top of the dunes on the tracks to the hot water pools.

Typical, the bloody lemons weren't eating anything (including prawns) when we were there a day before you.
When you want one they ain't there, when you don't they're everywhere...

A Snapper
A Trevally
A Kingi.

went out to kawakawa bay ...was not much biting....nice and calm weather...was a nice relaxing day out anyway and hope to get out to port waikato or up the south head on the manukau....getting back into surfcasting as havent done it for ages....

Fished Blacks, Blucks and Whakaki b4 New year. Good fishing at the latter. Bite period crazy, mid incoming tide, 2/3/4pm each arvo. Hot days almost flat sea. Fished evenings for no fish. Hope to shoot up for another go Wednesday.Sounds like Mohaka not the best, try Whakamahi for a change. Happy New year to all you baiters and waiters.

Yea went out from 5:30 odd to 8:30. Got a nice 12kg Kingi on a livey here in Hawkes Bay.

Yup Naki, and it sucked the kumera. Just 1 snap, and a bundle of Kahawai, couple lemons, and got dealt to by a large bitty thing after dark. Set liveys at Mohaka mouth and got weeded and gannets ate them

Went out yesterday morning for two medium lemons and a huge spotty thing .then back out to awatoto for 2 more lemons and 2 tiny lemons pups

Had a fish at the papanui point end of Ruapuke yesterday while out for a drive along the raglan coast not a bloody thing ended up leaving after a swag of waxheads turned up and decided to surf right next to my line.

Had the same problem at a spot I fish between Manu Bay boat ramp and Ocean Beach last night Fin. The waves were breaking into the hole I was fishing, got a few glares from the surfers. Mind you the fishing didn't pick up until after dark any way. Got a 2 good pannies and 2 kahawai plus a few throw backs and the usual missed hits. It's a good spot if you don't mind rays every now and then.

geeze charlie it seems we keep heading for the same places or close by on same or different days would be funny if we ended up bumping into each other. I left raglan at 6:00pm after trying to find my way to where I used to fish in the channel entrance about 16 years ago but do you think I could find my way round after all those years ? they changed the bloody place lol. the upside the isuzu big horn I drive around in had a good run along that goat track they call a road along the coast was a nice drive apart from a couple of rutty corners sending me sideways at 20k an hour I really should have stuck it in 4WD.

Lots of people losing sinkers and catching undersized snaps and yems at the entrance from what I hear, tend to avoid the place. We should catch up sometime. I was thinking about driving up to hot water beach at Kawhia in the Rav but I'm like you and tend to stay too long on the incoming so will stick to the gut busting walk back up the dunes

As for those dunes I just see it as some much needed exercise for me no matter how much it blows my ring piece. Won't be doing the raglan thing again in a hurry much prefer Kawhia as you don't seem to get your lines buzzed by those bloody surfers

Looking at going to the hotwater beach in kawhia on thursday morning to catch the low tide at 9:30am weather permitting the easterly wind direction from thursday onwards sort of buggered my plans for heading to the east coast for a fish but made it good for a trip out west.

Thought I'd give it another shot tonight seeing as the weather was good and the sea has eased off. Ended up being plagued by undersized snaps, oversized lemons and a ray. Kept a 9kg lemon for the smoker..

I am going to be getting two lots of bait tomorrow some mullet or bonito and a couple of crabs or some raw prawns so I can have a crack at catching a lemonfish as that is one fish on my bucket list to catch for a feed as I am sick of paying stupid supermarket prices for it when I want some.

Nice Andy, just in myself great night, nothing keepable but busy night with stingys eels bust offs and red bloody cod has been quite some time since I have had a night like that. Time to get back to the calendar as I may have worked out where I went wrong........

Right my plans are set shittin the bed at 0500 so I can be gone from home no later than 0630 for Kawhia with intention of being off the beach no later than 1130am. Taking two rods one set up to target lemonfish (hope the buggers like vannemei prawns I paid $1.75 for 8 of them) and the other is just going to get chunks of mullet from pak n save put on the hook.

Was out at Kawhia till 2:45PM went home empty handed and sporting a cut on my finger from the shock leader when I forgot to tighten the drag before casting the rod had loaded up good and proper when it happened too

but I am sure that sand dune had got a bit steeper over the last couple of weeks with all of the westerlies we had as today was the first time I left my foo foo valve behind while heading back to the car time to start taking the bighorn around from the boat ramp I think

Friday or Saturday evenings into the night mate go hard. Been swapping out windows today and will again tomorrow but if I'm lucky I may get out.
