Waders

Would like to buy some waders for when I start whitebaiting but I don't have a clue on what to buy any advise would be helpful.Chest or hip,nylon or neoprene etc.could use them for surfcasting in the colder weather.

I use an old pair of 4 ml neoprene chest waders for beach fishing when it's cold. You have to be sensible and not venture to far in. They are far warmer than nylon, can stand up to blackberries etc much better and relatively easy to repair if they do get torn. Thigh waders - great way to get a boot full of water IMHO. Go for chest waders with a wading belt for safety.

Hi Charlie , we sell a lot of waders mostly hyelastic PVC which is 70 denier or 210 denier which is better quality . The PVC type is preferred by the whitebaiters because the,y pull their nets onto their legs to scoop out their riggiliy bounty . If you end up with neoprene I would suggest that you wear a apron with a cut up the middle and strap them on like chaps. I personally use breathables for Surfcasting with a belt . Like all waders your under layer is important high quality polypropylene type to wick moister away from your skin.

Have a look at the new Hodgman Breathable waders with gumboots attached. Just going into shops now.

The snapper don't know where the car park is!

Having run a fishing lodge I lost count of the people who arsed up wearing waders. If you really feel these are necessary pay out a few more dollars and get an inflatable life belt, better still an inflatable vest.

Better to get wet than dead wet. Waders full of water and the surf's undertow are a deadly companions.

Where do I get a wading belt from saw one on trademe but now I cannot find it.

Won't be going out to deep common sense prefails.Will only use them in the cold weather for surfcasting.Mostly wanted them for waitbaiting maybe just over knee deep and for when I go spearing flounder.

I have been using thermax 4mm duroprene waders for years. Have rubber boot keep you dry and warm. Shoe glue takes care if any holes. Mid price around 200 at FCO.

Any shop selling fly fishing gear should be able to sell you a wading belt, otherwise try Kilwells mail order service. An advantage of neoprene is it is buoyant. Just be careful where you wear them.
