Yesterday I decided to go for a fish. So off to Ocean Beach down here at Westport. Oh well maybe a few red cod things and some spiney dogs I thought. Weill buggar me. I had four big west coast snappers on the beach in two hours, our winter snappers are real big buggars. 12lb 14lb 20lb and a tiddler 8lb. Damm Im on a roll I thought. So of to that secret Cape Foulwind. Ten blue cod later I knew I was having a magic fishing day. And bloody hell next minute a hoki.
Well they make great blue fin tuna baits. 3 hours later I had him on the beach. 190 kg. Can this day end I thought. So I put a livie on and next minute whoompo. Oh shit this is a biggie I thought. He took three hundred yards of me but then I turned his head. And he started broaching. Well buggar me again. He had a bloody sword on and a sail on his back. Well then the fight was on. Its him or me,one was of us is going to die in this epic battle, I thought.
So we fought each other. No new fangled Veritas, just a bloody old Solaris with an Okuma Reel. The old combo before GK jumped ships.
Four hours later I had him or a her within 50 metres. He broached again, in all his splendor and waved his sword at me. As if in a salute. It was then that a tear rolled down my eye. No old mate your going to live on. Taking my pocket knife I cut the line. And it was free to once again roam the ocean, the place of its birth. And as I stood on the rocky headland. Pondering my fame for the first broad bill caught land based.
Well buggar me. There was a torpedo coming straight at me, at about a hundred knots. And then she just came right out, did a complete sumersalt, and I kinda think she gave me a smile.
Just imagine what you would have caught had you been using a Veritas. You may even have landed a few of the target fish, beautiful red cod and a spiney or two, those rods are exceptional for handling 'real' fish.
Bent the new Veritas Pro which will be available this summer on an Ocean Beach (HB) kahawai today.
You had me going for a minute Hardy but when you said more than 1 snapper I knew it was a story. The snapper don't know where the car park is! Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.
Yep all go now. My rig, your sinker Phill. A perfect team. I need some more 5oz next time Im in. Remind me.The snapper don't know where the car park is! Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.
