Couple of Interesting winter captures

Yesterday i was informed by a credible source and had viewed a photo of two very recently caught Salmon caught spinning for Kahawai at the Nuhaka river mouth. Has anyone else heard of this? Very cool!. Secondly on saturday gone a customer informed me of a nice approximately 7 to 8kg Snapper caught at Le Quesne road surfcasting. Wilst not as rare as the Salmon capture a mid winter Snapper in local hb waters is still a good effort. Theres certainly plenty of couta and spineys about, with a few Kahawai, cod and random Gurnard to make up the short fall.

Wow interesting indeed do you know if snap was caught Saturday or earlier in the week, have to look that one up in the calendar sure I have some history on Le Quesne road

Saw the salmon photo on facebook but couldnt be sure it was authentic. I had a couple more local salmon photos, ( caught in the ocean off Pania Reef area)3kgs given to me recently. These were caught on bait on the bottom.. There are more showing up all the time.
We could have a fishery here in a year or two.

The snapper don't know where the car park is!
Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.

Yeah Great to hear really. That would be nice thank you Chad. Logan I'm informed capture was on saturday gone. Sorry no more info other than that. Almost forgot what they look like really, last ones i caught were in the BOP overnighter may30/june1. Save the gas pingaz til mid to late August now. If i get a spring like last ill be very content

Big Snapper haunts Perfume pt

Well we do occasionally hear of them taken at Perfume pt, today i had a very gutted customer who had a BIG ol moocher Snapper at his feet in rough sea conditions at perfume pt slid it onto a rock to get down and grab it , a swell came in as he went to grab it lifting the leader and trace, parted company. Spewing is an understatement. Ive been there, not the nicest of pills to swallow. Lucky fish!. Great to hear of some good winter reports locally. Apparently the Kahawai have been fairly thick down there too swell as the odd Kingfish still making fleeting appearances. Go them Nth easterlies

That's amazing, never knew there were salmon in the north island.
I reckon the blue whale that washed up over here could be burlying it up for some good fish...or some big sharks.
