Midwinter Snapper

I picked up this 60cm Snapper on a slide bait at Otama Beach in the Coromandel. A lovely midwinter surprise

Slide bait livey? Good fish welldone. Lovely beach that, the" squeaky" silica sand beach. Have had a coupla Kahawai on sliding liveys there, and alot of small pannies on dark just in the left corner of the beach. Opito bay over the hill is worth a look and has alot better shellfish beds but is a much shallower beach requiring a bit of wading.

Yes it was a slide bait livey (a yellowed eyed mullet) from the left hand corner of the beach - my first slide bait Snapper. Thanks for the info on Opito bay - I had thought of visiting and probably will next time I am there.

Have a look off the rocks in the middle of Opito. I have had plenty of good sized snapper there evening fishing. Strayline no weight big bait. Well worth investing an evening there. For a kingy there is a cool ledge before you get to Opito. Its popular with kings and fishermen.
