Good luck to all those attending the Moki 1000. It certaimly is the talk of town in Wellington. Looks like there might be a likely weather window early Sunday morning. Everything has been forecast from hail and wind to swells and sun. Time will tell. See you there, Im dishing out one of the prizes this year so will meet you on the dias. The snapper don't know where the car park is! Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.

Wasn't a bad fish. Warm night, bit of a breeze occasionally, no rain.
Super awesome turnout as spots to fish were few and far between. Scoped out most spots from boundary to boundary as my buddy has a new (to him) surf and so most of Sat was spend sliding through mud wherever possible. Cheers JT, awesome driving skills.
Fishing was slow and only saw a few non target species but learned a lot directly and indirectly about fishing the place. Especially the match the hatch rule of thumb.
Wandered back to see Scuzzy - Mark Graham from Action Tackle - about 1 am Sunday and fished the spot he was at as his neighbours' had long gone night nights. At that point Mark had a couple of small ish moki (I joke - they looked like comp contenders)
I got a text from Panser on Sunday saying that Mark won. Certainly hope so - He put in some yards and maintained a good sense of humour right to the end.
All in all a great weekend. I don't care for the competition aspect so much but an excuse to fish across 24 hours and the chance to go to one of the most spectacular and wild coastlines in New Zealand is always welcomed
8/10 on the churrr scale.

Conditions were less than perfect and it was a good learning curve for fishing in a different environment.
Good to meet some more fellow fisho's and see some familiar faces again.
A word of advice: NEVER take Phills advice on a shortcut through the mountains. "Just before Upper Hut turn right and it takes you right to Waikanai" My co-pilot SnappyBoy did a Michael Jackson, the squeals and yelps as we drove along, and he went in DARK and came out WHITE. THANX PHILL !!!!!!
