Veritas Surf Rod

Hi guys.I'm quite keen on these Veritas rods but have heard that there seemed to be an issue with the guides and where the rod joins together.Does anyone know if these problems have been sorted.Cheers.

HI I've got one of the new ones and I've used it about 6 times . It seems all ok to me and casts great

Only problem with the guides is people with preconceived ideas and a gross lack of imagination and have not tried them. The greatest advantage of the guides is the reliability removing the risk of guide wrap when casting.
When purchasing a new rod never take possession until you have put it together in the shop and you are satisfied the joints are good.

One of the other anglers on the forum had a Veritas break an the join, it actually split open, he took it back to the shop he bought it from and it got replaced free of charge, That was after about 6 months of use (but he is a bit hard on his gear).
The new model is a pretty decent piece of equipment. I had the pleasure of giving it a fling on a demonstration evening (Thanx GK)
If I didnt have so many rods it would surely be my next buy.
I have a PURGLAS landing end of Feb, cant wait!!!!

After a great demo and watching different casting styles, I was impressed with this Rod. Great overall presentation by GK and Philly..If GK comes up with a design for overhead casters then I might be tempted to buy one...

PURGLAS 400/2 arriving soon...

Working on it Snappy but dont hold your breath. The Veritas LR works mighty well with o/head anyway.

I wish I knew the makers of this rod, it is unbelievable. The strain it maintains, the bend it takes on, can you imagine a surfcasting rod that can handle this sort of pressure for casting and handling the big one.

Hi Guys. What’s the difference between the “LR” and “OH” Veritas? What does “SMG” stand for on the fixed spool reel Veritas? Are they all based on the same blank? Thanks.

Hi Allan, the LR stands for Lowrider as in the guides. The LR has the same tip section but the middle and butt sections have been beefed up. Awesome rod for the money.

Looking at getting one of these rods.
Q: The low rider guides means what ? are they best suited for OH, even though, I have seen this rod advertised elsewhere suited to both OH & spin.
If LR means that they sit lower on the blank, will the guides still be big enough to realistically be used for spin ?

If this rod suits both spin/OH, I will use my shuttle for light line beach fishing. For fish the river mouth I will use a heavier line on a spin reel.... what reel would you put on it to keep its balance, budget around 3 hundy

Have just purchased a new Veritas. Tested it out off the beach at Rarangi near Blenheim. It handled a couple of big Rig very well. Just found it hard to get the joins right in and even harder to pull it apart. Cast great and looking forward to testing it out when I get to Papamoa

Had a session on Wednesday with my son-in-law. Couldn't make out why we had two snap offs when casting. I have just carefully examined the rings and discovered two of the guides in the top section have cracked inserts. This is the first model, not the latest with low rider guides.

I am annoyed because I look after my gear, even got rod bags for them (I have two Veritas rods) so tomorrow I have a trip into town to get repairs carried out.

Trust me just buy one don't get hung up with the technical side of things. I would put long cast reel onto it (check the website ) some nice line and go fishing.

Rub the female part of the rods with a soft lead pencil. Makes assembly and dis-assembly easier .

Bit of a pain Hangler but cracked guides happen . I have broken more then my share enough that I take a few mixed sizes away on longer trips so with a bit of bodging and electrical tape you can keep fishing until you can make a proper repair.

Some good tips there Neil. The problem I face is that a small crack in a guide simply destroys 12lb BS nylon. It had never occurred to me just how fine the ceramic centers of the guides on the early Veritas were, it would not take much of a knock to crack or chip one ... and I have discovered I have two of them cracked. I will get a quote on new guides (Fuji are usually expensive) but it may be cheaper to simply buy another rod, do the repair myself and keep the Veritas as a spare.

Nobody insinuated they do. As I look after my fishing gear and I have neither dropped the rod or hit anything with one, the source of the cracks is a mystery. The rod is not damaged and neither of the two eyes are bent in any way to suggest they have been in contact with something hard. It will be interesting to hear what the repair guy has to say when he looks at them ... I will let you know.

As an after thought, they have had to deal with some very large fish lately, perhaps this may have helped.
