Fantail Bay - Coromandel

I'm heading up to Fantail Bay next week for a couple of days fishing. Its about 20 years since I last fished that area off the rocks. Anyone been up there lately.

Go there quite a lot gave up surfcasting because you loose a lot of gear in the rocks. There is a rod holder cemented into the rocks you can use. I have found that it is better fishing about 2 ks this side of Fantail bay you will catch a lot of under size snapper at Fantail bay.

Its been all of that for me too but I bet its still the same. The flat ledge by the road 50m from camp for a breakfast snapper then over the hill ti the high rocks for a kingfish!

The snapper don't know where the car park is!
Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.

Well the trip up to Fantail resulted like this
50 Snapper but only 10 legal
1 big KY
2 Big Trevs
Biggest John Dory I have caught
One Blue Cod
One Drummer
All caught on one day
