Will a ledger rig keep a bait hard on the sand or should sinker, ball/teardrop run down to the hook? Read an old article that hard on the bottom is the best way to fish shellfish baits.

Ledger will lie on the bottom unless you are fishing straight down from a wharf or boat. I often put a float above the top hook (on the mainline) to make it move in the surge. The snapper don't know where the car park is! Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.
