a elephant of a fish

have any of you guys had any luck catching elephant fish in the north island. I know they are a mainly south island fish just wanting to know if they make there way up at any stage . any info would be great

Hi I have heard of them being caught at Ocean Beach South Wairarapa.

Also Ocean Beach south of Cape Kidnappers and Mahanga Beach north side of Mahia. Gisborne guys catch a few at Wainui Beach and they get others as well.

The snapper don't know where the car park is!
Sometimes it is better to travel than to arrive.

Do we use peanuts for bait for these fish and if so, which is more effective...raw or roasted?
