Goals for 2015/16 season

With spring around the corner and people are starting to get out everyone must be thinking of the summer ahead, so what are your goals for the season here a few of mine

Catch a snapper 10lb+
Land my first gurnard!
Kingfish over 10kg
And last but not least blue cod off beach

Best to luck with the season approaching

Goals for me are to fulfill my lifetime desire of a trip to Christmas Island (mid Pacific one). We leave in two weeks. After that I will be happy with any catches around Hawkes Bay. We plan on prospecting south again this year. There are so many beaches and most unfished by club members that it is still and exciting prospect. We will revisit our favourites from the last ten years. I would like to catch a snapper in Hawkes Bay this season. Something I failed to do last year.
I am looking forward to a fishy summer.

Sorry HB, not specifically a response to your post but does anyone know of a comp in the Mt Maung. area coming up soon. I heard part of it advertised on the radio in a shop I was in. Perhaps my goal is to enter some competitions this year, never have done, never really caught much fish so what the h***, why not.

I have entered 3 comps the past 2 years and caught no fish every time I have no luck during a comp but yes that's also a great goal

Never say never in a fishing comp. I landed a $500 prize with 5 minutes to go a couple of years ago. Every day I go fishing I set a goal. To catch a fish, preferably a quality one rather than a less favored species. Goals are only worth setting if they are achievable. Although the fishery is poor here in terms of our traditional catches one should never say never.

As for goals, I need to beat an 8kg Snapper and a 15kg Kingi lol - yeah right....

My only goal for this season is to have a better one than last season.... and to try new methods and beaches

Didn't catch any gurnard last year so one goal is to at least target CHB and SHB beaches. Phau and Herbertville and even Kairakau. Missed too many field weekends last year so need to make up for that

Andy and Fringsy, Head south there is some wonderful water to fish snd explore may even be a gurnard down there, WE love it when its fishable and theres room for as few thousand more rods south of the Cape, There are some exciting fish down there too,

Check with your club.
If you're part of a recognised club, then Whakatane surf fishing club run their Snapper 1000 Invitational competition each year in the last weekend of September.
It's invite only so if you aren't in an invited club or one of the individual invites then you ain't in.

Hey Geno, Whakatane Snapper 1000 is now for a very select group. I haven't been invited for about the last 3-4 years after attending every year since the 2nd one held I think. It used to be for NZACA affiliated clubs but not sure who gets invited now.

No excuses, just get out there!!

Well it is getting easier Geno with only about 40 people fishing it rather than the 100 that used to.

Agreed Andy I have had a couple of seasons now where I have caught nothing decent apart from one kahawai earlier this year at aotea harbour entrance. my fishing days are limited to one evening or day per week now that the earthworks season has started once again and working at the huntly section of the waikato expressway for the next two to three years, last two seasons were at the cambridge section of the expressway.

Part One of my goals done! Christmas Island was a blast! We have booked again for next year. Now to see what we can do with Hawkes Bay this year, I have time restraints now but really want to explore south. El Nino is perfect and may even bring in some, dare I say it, GURNARD. We will see. I am sure something will happen south of the cape this season.
