Papamoa and Otamarakau Beaches

Just wondering how well they have been fishing lately and what baits have been working best thinking about heading over that way over labour weekend to hopefully have my first surfcasting session with my new Penn Prevail if it arrives in time from the south island as I have had it on layby with a retailer down that way.

Pikowai has just started throwing up some snapper. Parts of rogers road throwing up good consistent snapper up to 4 kilos just odd bite times. 12 til 330 am has seen best results

. Not sure bout paps tho

was at Matata by the DoC camp yesterday and the fishing was miserable not even the guys with those expensive seahorse things were having any success including some dude who was using a air powered cannon thingamabob to hurl his bait and sinker over the horizon. All I got was a sardine sized Kahawai and a good dose of sunburnt legs ah well next time I will take the tent and do an evening fish.

I was there the night before you. Next to where some $#@%^ idiots lit a fire and left there broken bottles in the sand. No bites at all and I fished from 3pm-7am.....

Take less, leave more...tomorrow is another day

That is exactly where I fished and was very pissed off to see that some one did that, was even more pissed off when the missus showed me a freshly killed undersized snapper on the beach she wanted to bring it home to eat so I measured it and it was 28cm and said no bloody way are we being caught with that with the size limit being 30cm on the east coast a total bloody waste of a good fish.
