Perfect size for eating. They would smoke beautifully or marinade the flesh in teriyaki sauce. Nothing better.

They fight like kings and they feed you like a king. They are a fine fish.

I couldn't agree with you more, Rex. One of the most underrated fish in New Zealand waters. Great sport, fight every inch of the way to the beach, usually a damn good take, never knowing when to give up.
The Kahawai is a dream fish for those who like to fish light, the fight is never over until the fish is on the beach and in your hands.
If fishing a whole anchovy or a small pilchard there is always the chance you may catch one of those elusive Kingies. I have had that happen a couple of times so there maybe a special bonus in the offing. In the next three months there is every chance of that happening ... brilliant.
