Had a chat with the local council bods today down at the mouth while we were doing the beach clean up. Big plans are underway for the area, mainly due to the messy state of things down there. As usual, good law abiding citizens are having to pay the price for the idiots who litter. As of October they will be remodelling the whole place and restricting vehicles to a fenced car park. It seems vehicles will no longer be able to access the river bank (white-baiters and boaties will be out unless they do leave an access road to the river bank) and beach access to the rivermouth will not be possible from there. To drive to the mouth you will need to enter the beach at the shingle works end, http://www.paniasurfcasting.org http://www.surfcaster.co.nz
No doubt that day will come - angler access is not on their list of concerns, when I asked about angler access from the rivermouth the answer was "they can walk from the car park"http://www.paniasurfcasting.org http://www.surfcaster.co.nz
