I am having some trouble in identifying the species, it looks very much like a snapper, but I am led to believe that on beaches they are now virtually extinct. And the only known population of any size live in the Hauraki Gulf at the Marine Sanctuary at Liegh. Is the one in the picture a stuffed one

Just to re-assure the HB fishermen, there are one or two of these still swimming around the bay. This one came in at 6 pound
