Gemini Splash Down Bait Clips

Has anyone had problems when using Gemini Splash Down Bait Clips (Red ones) with sinker detaching. I have had three occasions where rig has come back without sinker. Unbelievably even though the sinker is firmly attached to the clip, somehow it is detaching. I use a swivel between the sinker and the clip to reduce twisting of the rig during the cast. I use both BOS breakout and Scud sinkers and it happens with both types.

Not with sinker detaching but with getting fine sand clogged in mechanism that has frozen clip locked or open and taken some effort to free

I have had this response from UK.

Gemini are aware of this and recommend that the sinker loop or swivel used should have a minimum 2mm diameter as this then greatly reduces the risk of the sinker working free from the clip.

Anyone that is experiencing this problem, I have a fix for it.

That is probably why I have never had a problem. Only use Gemini, Breakaway or DCA tail wires.(Pour all my own leads) Are there actually tail wires out there thinner than 2mm?

I have used Breakaway sinkers and still had the problem. I have solved the problem by fitting a split ring over the tail of the clip and using a Breakaway Oval Split ring to attach the sinker, works a treat.

When you say Breakaway are you refering to the actual brand Breakaway or the style?

The ones I buy are bought locally and are in a bin labelled "Breakaway Sinkers". I presume they are genuine Breakaway sinkers.

No I doubt they are. The genuine Breakaway sinkers come from Breakaway UK whose tail wires are wider than 2mm.
