So I didn't work last week. They didn't give me any days. Said it was slow and they'd make it up to me next week.
Then a transcript was ordered on Tuesday. They have to be done in five days so I said I could do it by Sunday. Depending on how you count, that's either five or six days but since it falls on a weekend, it shouldn't make a big difference. They said, "We want it by Friday". So I said, "Okay, I don't want to do it." They've been getting argumentative with me over these transcripts for a while now and I'm just sick of it. Their "expedite" has always been five days but now they want it in three and a half days? Okay, then you do it. I don't give a shit.
Things have been slow so I've been getting nothing but cases that rarely get ordered. They keep the cases that tend to get ordered for their employees (as opposed to the "self-employed" people) to keep the money in-house. I suspect that that's why they're causing problems with the few transcripts that do get ordered for me too. They just want to keep the money.
So schedule for next week comes in. "Can you do Monday and Thursday? Sorry it's just two days for you."
I say, "No, that's okay. I'll take the week off."
Total disrespect. I don't need to beg for this work. I have a rare, somewhat in demand skill. Give these jobs to your elderly staff and your army of unqualified, obnoxious young people who take notes on their laptops.
I don't need the money anyway. Indeed, I have to get rid of the money because I'm moving to Finland. I was talking to my cousin and it seems that I would be able to get the equivalent of Job Seekers Allowance but not the equivalent of housing benefits. Because they give the JSA regardless of how much money you have in savings but not housing benefits. If you have over a certain amount of money saved up, they don't give housing benefits. Kind of sucks but it's better than in England where they don't give any benefits if you have over a certain amount in savings.
I'm not saying that Finland will be awesome but I can't stay in shitty London doing this shitty job that I hate and living in this shitty flat. So I have to do something. I don't want to go to the US either. So Finland. Check it out. Get in touch with my heritage. Count the trees. Go to a legitimate sauna. Build a giant snow fort. Eat some of that weird, disgusting, largely fish-based food. Maybe get a crappy job that non-Finnish speakers get. Maybe woo a not-so-attractive Finnish woman. Take advantage of their world-leading healthcare system. There's stuff to do. It's an adventure.
Coming to London was also an adventure and I think it worked out...okay. Learned a lucrative trade that I enjoy doing. Got coffee with about 50 Chinese women. Had a long-term girlfriend. So whatever.
