One thing that keeps coming up is that motorists need to take a 'fuel sample' to back up any claim.
I occasionally have to take fuel samples from race cars. This is always done in the presence of a team representative. Three 1 litre samples are normally taken in special cans and the cans are sealed with tamperproof seals. The team choses one sample and which can be examined at a NAMAS approved lab. of the team's choice.The others are sent for analysis to lab. which the MSA use(Also NAMAS). The seals have to be confirmed as unbroken, by the lab. on receipt in all cases.
If any fuel samples are going to be used by motorists to claim compensatiion through the legal process, then a proces similar to the above must surely be required. I can't see the oil companies rolling over on this one, they will use lawyers in much the same way as race teams do when money is at stake.
